Overwatch players have discovered an apparent bug in Quick Play after the August 13 patch that brought Sigma and Role Lock to the game.
The August 13 patch was absolutely massive and, in addition to introducing Role Lock and Sigma, it also contained updates for a lot of Overwatch’s heroes.
August 13 was also the start of the Role Lock beta season, and even though things seem to be working fine in Competitive Play, Quick Play appears to be having a few issues.
Sigma is now available in Overwatch on all platforms.
What seems to be the problem?
Reddit user RetroBowser called Quick Play “god awful” on the game’s subreddit after the August 13 Overwatch patch.
“So it’s Role Lock Quick Play as of right now, but without role queue,” RetroBowser explained. “Meaning all roles are available but as soon as 2 people select a role in the quick play selection then it becomes locked for everyone else on the team.”
Quick Play’s Role Lock doesn’t seem to be working as intended.
Dexerto has tested RetroBowser’s claim in Overwatch and can confirm that Quick Play is operating how they describe it to be.
Based on how Role Lock has performed on the PTR up until this point, it’s safe to say this was definitely not what Blizzard intended with the new system.

Role Lock is supposed to let players choose damage, tank or support before they enter into the queue, so Quick Play appears to have the Role Lock without the Role Queue.
In addition, Role Lock wasn’t even supposed to come out for Quick Play today, it was only supposed to be for the Competitive beta season – with the system supposed to come to QP and Competitive Season 18 on September 1.
Blizzard themselves responded shortly after the issue was posted to the official Overwatch forums and said they were currently working on a fix.
What else is in the August 13 Overwatch patch?
Apart from the Quick Play problems, things seem to be going smoothly for the beta Role Lock Competitive season – where the newest Overwatch hero Sigma is available to play, despite earlier reports that he wouldn’t be.

But with the Quick Play bug, players that want to try Sigma out in a more casual setting than Competitive better be quick, which is usually the case with any new hero.
The Role Lock dream appears to have turned into a nightmare for players in Quick Play.
Having an annoying bug in Quick Play probably isn’t the worst thing that could have happened with such a massive patch, but hopefully Blizzard is able to roll out a fix as soon as possible.
